Story
In the early 1975 twelve railroaders and enthusiasts formed the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Geesthachter Eisenbahn e.V. (GE). It was the aim to preserve the tradition of the ancient Bergedorf-Geesthachter Eisenbahn (BGE) which was closed in 1953 and to simulate the feeling of a little branch line on its original tracks. We succeed in rebuying some original passenger cars of the BGE which were sold to other railway companies during the years. On december,19th 1976 (70 years after the opening of the BGE) the first train of the GE ran between Bergedorf and Geesthacht. Since december 1977 the trains were carried by our first steam engine no.1. In 1985 our second engine, a danish series Q, replaced the no.1, because of necessary restoration. All members of the GE work as volunteers and we offer the feeling of a historical branch line on several weekends during the year. Moreover our train is the attraction on a variety of railway events in the Hamburg area.
