Horwich Works was a railway works built in 1886 by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway (LYR) in Horwich. Horwich works produced its 1,000th engine in 1907. The last BR Standard design steam engine to be built was outshopped in 1957. After that the site was used for overhaul of steam engines. After the end of the steam era it was used as works for other railway stock.
