In 1985, the Betzdorf railway friends association was founded. The club first began with evening lectures in 1986 later followed by the first special trips. The idea to run the Westerwaldbahn Scheuerfeld-Bindweide with steam engines became a reality. These special trips enjoyed such great popularity that in they were repeated in 1987, 1988 and 1993. In 1987 the club purchased its first railway, a railcar of the type Klv 12. A little later followed by two more vehicles, the former DB-rail buses 798 711 and 668 798. In December 1993, finally met the former DR-52 8121-7 steam locomotive was acquired. After a general inspection in Meiningen and the further work in Betzdorf the locomotive was in operation in the special train service from 1994-1999. Since early 1995 the club has also its own car car set, with a seating capacity of 350 passengers. Since early 2001, the special trips are carried out with the in-house refurbished steam locomotive 52 8134. The club offers shelter for engines from other owners, private and museums.
