The E2 1040 started her life as E 1040. The Swedish National railroad company ordered 130 engines of this type. Number 1040 was refitted into a E2 by adding an additional front axes in 1946. In 1959 a new welded boiler was attached. In 1972 the engine became part of the strategic military reserve. In 1998 it was sold to the ZLSM.
